DHUBRI: President of India, Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Dhubri Medical College and Hospital and dedicated the college to the people on Thursday. The President virtually inaugurated the college virtually from IIT, Guwahati. In connection to inauguration, a meeting was organized in the college premises wherein as the chief guest, MP Pabitra Margherita spoke at length on the achievements of the government in the health sector.
"Dhubri Medical College and Hospital is the ninth medical college of the State and 12 more medical colleges will come up within a few years. Then there will be altogether 21 medical colleges in Assam as planned as of now," the MP said. He also appealed to the people of Dhubri to extend all co-operation to run the college and hospital smoothly and to keep it clean.
Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan MP followed by chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr Debamoy Sanyal who recalled the history of Dhubri Medical College and Hospital. Located on the outskirts of Dhubri town, Dhubri Medical College and Hospital was built on 108 bighas of land at the cost of Rs 509 crore. There are 24 departments, doctors and 28 senior resident doctors in the college.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, on October 12 while inspecting the college, told media persons that classes of the college would start from November 15 and by that time, all the formalities of admission of 100 students would be completed.
