DHUBRI: Dhubri district achieved the free COVID-19 vaccination target of 15,000 on the first day on Monday.

The district administration went on to open 100 vaccination centres across the district and by evening it closed vaccination at the figure 15,230.

The fear phychosis which prevented people from vaccination was RAT testing prior to vaccination, but in the mega vaccination drive, test was not made mandatory, and this perhaps was the reason, along with rigorous awareness campaign, that people came out in large numbers and made a beeline for the vaccination centres, a district health official informed.

Even on the second day on Tuesday, long queues were seen since early morning in the vaccination centres, but due to shortage of vaccines, the centres had to stop vaccination but the figure still touched around 9,000, officer added. When contacted, Dhubri District Immunization Officer, Dr. Joydip Bhattacharyya confirmed the shortage of vaccines on Tuesday but added that vaccine would reach by night and from Wednesday, vaccination would continue with full stock.

"Now there will be no problem in vaccination and meeting our target of 15,000 per day as the awareness level is at the peak in Dhubri district, and we are confident to meet the target in the coming days too," Bhattacharyya said.

Meanwhile, Guardian Secretary for Dhubri district, Dr JB Ekka visited vaccination centres with Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan MP and health officers and expressed satisfaction over the ongoing vaccination in the district.
