Dhubri scribes condole demise of Journalist Rajib Sarma's father

DHUBRI: Dhubri Journalists' Association (Dhubri Press Club), in a meeting held at Dhubri Sahitya Sabha auditorium, condoled the demise of scribe Rajib Sarma's father, on Sunday.

President of Dhubri district unit BJP and Dhubri unit of Indian Red Cross Society, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal condoled the death and paid floral tribute at his portrait. This followed by offering of floral tribute by local scribes and social workers, including general secretary of Dhubri Lions Club and media coordinator of Dhubri district Media Secretary, Dipankar Mazumdar and a host of other dignitaries.

Rajib's father died soon his arrest, reportedly unable to bear the shock of his son's arrest. Later, family members lodged an FIR in the Gauripur Police Station alleging police atrocities committed while arresting Rajib on the night of July 15.

Rajib Sarma was granted extension of bail till July 22 in the case filed by Dhubri Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) alleging extortion and outraging the modesty of his wife. Extension of bail was granted in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gipsi Deb and the scribe will have to appear before the court for seeking further extension or permanent bail, a court source said.

Sarma was booked under non-bailable sections but due to sudden demise of hisfather, he was first granted an interim bail of three days to perform the last rites of his father on Thursday, which was extended till July 22.
