DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh District Day will be celebrated from September 30 to October 2 with great enthusiasm.

Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu said, "For three days, we will celebrate Dibrugarh district day. On October 2, 1971 Dibrugarh was carved out from Lakhimpur. A cultural rally will be taken out on the opening day of the programme. We appeal to everyone to participate in the programme for its success."

"An exhibition related to Dibrugarh's history will be showcased in the three days programme. A cultural show will be held in the three days' extravagance. Traditional sports and cycle rally will be held during the programme," the DC informed.

Pegu said, "Dog show will be the main attraction of the three-day extravaganza. The dog show will be held at Chowkidinghee field. A souvenir on the rich history of Dibrugarh will be released during the programme."

"We have requested the Tea Association, ABITA, to exhibit the rich history of tea by giving stalls and exhibitions. We are very excited about the three-day programme," Pegu stated.

He said, "An audio-visual on Dibrugarh's past history will be shown during the programme. We have also appealed to the Railways to help us during the programme."

Dibrugarh is also known as the 'Tea city of India' because of its tea gardens. Dibrugarh derived its name from Dibarumukh (as a renowned encampment of Ahoms during the Ahom Chutiya war).
