DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh district administration will be stricter against drunken driving cases in the days to come.

Taking in view the increasing number of accidents due to drunken driving, the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) has expressed serious concerns and decided to check such incidents in the near future. DRSC has requested the State Government to issue 40 breath analysers. After the receiving of 40 breath analysers, Dibrugarh traffic department will launch a massive drive against drunken driving in the district.

Recently, in a District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting, a resolution was adopted for acquiring 40 more breath analysers for Dibrugarh district. Another burning issue, which was discussed in detail, was haphazard parking. DRSC has decided not to allow parking within 30 metres radius of each tri-section of the road.

The meeting also decided to construct a new parking space near the Khanikar Jaganath temple on PWD owned vacant land by evicting the existing hotel. Due to the mushrooming of nursing homes without any parking allotment in their own premises, most vehicles are parked on the road causing serious traffic snarls.

To solve such traffic congestion, DRSC has asked the Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) to impose fines on those nursing homes which refuse to comply with the notices served by the DMB.

On the other hand, a serious threat has been posed by the bamboo bushes as well as trees in the new AMCH link road due to lining over the high voltage electric wires. DRSC chairman and Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu asked the APDCL, PWD and DMB authority to take immediate action to this effect to avoid impending danger of life and property.
