Dibrugarh Airport completes work for merging of extended runway with existing one

DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Airport situated at Mohanbari has successfully and safely completed work for merging of the extended runway with existing one.

With this, runway has been restored back to previously existing 1,830-metre length and instrument landing System (ILS) facility will be re-operationalized within two days after due flight calibration. The runway threshold was earlier displaced by 150 metres to enable merging work following safety requirements.

This had also resulted in unavailability of Instrument Landing System as landing aids are referenced to threshold location. As per the airport sources, the flight calibration of ILS and DVOR was also completed on Thursday with the help of special aircraft of AAI being operated by their flight inspection unit.

The Dibrugarh Airport has got the approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for restoration of runway 05 threshold and accordingly, the declared distances of runway. The threshold was earlier displaced by 150 meters to facilitate completion of runway merging, which had also led to withdrawal of ILS facility. Now merger of extended runway is completed and with this restoration now, the pre-existing runway length of 1830 metres will be made available again and the ILS facility can be operationalized.
