DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Wednesday said a multi-tier security system had been deployed at Dibrugarh Central Jail where seven members of Waris Punjab De are lodged.
Speaking to media persons, the Dibrugarh DC stated that security was beefed up at the Dibrugarh Central Jail after four associates of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh were flown in to Dibrugarh from Punjab. Daljeet Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala and Bhagwant Singh Pradhan Mantri were brought to the high-security Dibrugarh Central Jail on March 19 while three more members, Harjit Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal and Gurinder Pal Singh were shifted to the Dibrugarh Jail on March 21.
“Seven members of Waris Punjab De are lodged in Dibrugarh jail. A three-tier security has been put into place in the Dibrugarh Central Jail so that there are no security lapses,” Pegu stated.
Sources said many more members are likely to be brought to Dibrugarh jail. Meanwhile, Punjab Police have launched a massive manhunt against the ‘Waris Punjab De’ group members in the state and so far over 150 arrests have been made and many of them were detained.
