Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh District Congress president and former MLA of Tingkhong LAC, Etuwa Munda came down heavily on the present BJP government in the State alleging that despite their earlier announcement, the tea labourers of the State were yet to get their full day due wages during the lockdown period.

Munda, while demanding early payment of wages to tea labourers, expressed his resentment over no supply of free masks to labourers of many tea estates though the State Government had earlier given consent for resumption of works in the tea estates on the condition that the tea estate managements would adhere to COVID-19 protocol. He demanded supply of free masks, soap and sanitizers to each labourer soon.

District Congress president Munda also said, “The State Government should pay an amount of Rs 5,000 to each labourer in order to cope up with the present crisis just as the Union Government had earlier paid a similar amount to sardar of each tea estate for purchasing mobile phone.” Moreover, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to pay Rs 1,000 to those poor families who had no ration cards, had failed to cover all beneficiaries due to petty politics played by a section of people. Munda further appealed to the government to help all the poor labourer families who were yet to be covered under the PM’s welfare scheme.
