DIBRUGARH: Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi by lighting a lamp and garlanding the Mahatma's statue at Circuit House here on Friday.

He recalled the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle of India. The programme held at Circuit House was attended, amongst others, by Chief Executive Officer of Dibrugarh Zila Parishad, Sanjay Dutta, Additional Deputy Commissioners Rajiv Thapa and Susanta Kumar Dutta, and other officials.

Dibrugarh District Health Committee, in association with the district administration, felicitated all safai karmacharis (cleaners) engaged in Khanikar COVID Care Centre in recognition for extending their inexorable dedicated service in cleaning the centre while braving the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Deputy Commissioner Jha, attending the felicitation programme as a chief guest, thanked all safai karmacharis for offering sincere service during the pandemic.

The day was also celebrated at Dibrugarh Municipality Board (DMB) with great enthusiasm. Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of DMB, Ranjit Konwar garlanded the statue of Mahtma Gandhi at Thana Chariali here.

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the other parts of the nation, Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence were celebrated in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Friday.

In connection with the event, Dhakuakhana Lions Club organized a blood donation programme at Dharamsala of Dhakuakhana town in association with Dhemaji Civil Hospital and Dhakuakhana Businessmen Association. The programme was inaugurated by Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Officer (SDO-Civil) Javir Rahul Suresh.

Strictly adhering to the COVID-19 protocol, a total of 40 persons under the subdivision voluntarily donated blood in the camp. In addition to Dhakuakhana Lions Club president Dr. Amal Chandra Dutta and secretary Debanga Gogoi; Dhakuakhana Press Guild working president Rajesh Gohain and other prominent personalities of the subdivision took part in the inaugural session of the blood donation camp.
