DIBRUGARH: Expressing deep concern about the horrific Manipur incident in which two women were paraded naked by a mob, the Diocese of Dibrugarh on Sunday called upon everyone to keep restrain and maintain peace in the state so that there is no repetition of such incidents in the future.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific news of the two women paraded naked by a mob in Manipur. The Diocese expresses its deep concern over the incidents which have tarnished the humanitarian ethics to its core. We categorically condemn the gender-based violence and humiliation as it has far-reaching consequences on the victims’ physical and psychological well-being. We condemn the inaction of the state police and the administration in bringing the culprits to book. Our hearts go out to the many women who have suffered similarly at the hands of unscrupulous miscreants, to the families who are rendered homeless, children made orphans and families who have lost their loved ones in this violence. We participate in their sorrow and pray to the Almighty for comfort and consolation. May God grant complete healing to those injured in the violence. During these difficult times, we call upon all to remain calm and respect one another's rights and freedoms to maintain peace in the state so that no such gruesome incident occurs again,” the Bishop of Dibrugarh Diocese Reverend Albert Hemrom in a statement said.
