Dibrugarh: Ever since Dibrugarh was declared one of the dirtiest cities of India by the Swachh Survekshan Survey, 2019, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board found itself on a sticky wicket. As a knee-jerk reaction to the survey, Ward Commissioner of Ward number 19, Rachna Jain resigned from the position she was holding. Rachna Jain reportedly cited moral responsibility and her failure to get the higher authorities to sanction her hygiene-oriented proposals as the reasons behind her decision.
In the latest development, all the other Dibrugarh Municipal Board ward commissioners of the place have decided to tender their resignations in the wake of the survey that showed the town in poor light in terms of cleanliness and hygiene. The people have reacted variedly to such developments. While some are of the opinion that they had a moral responsibility to step down from their positions, the others held that the decision only had a semblance of sincerity, and was more of a pretentious one.
