Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra confirms Mehek Sharma’s murder

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra on Monday confirmed that Mehek Sharma was allegedly murdered, whose body was recovered from Dibrugarh town bypass on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Dibrugarh SP said, “We have started investigation into the matter. We have arrested the prime suspect Aziz Ahmed on Sunday and today he was produced in court. We will be analysing all scientific evidences collected from the site.” The body with severe injury marks was found lying on the road near a car bearing registration number AS-06-AH-1143 on the middle of the bypass. A person who was later identified as one Aziz Ahmed, alias Munna, was found lying on the road alongside the dead girl with no injuries. The car belonged to him. While Mehek Sharma lived in Khalihamari area of Dibrugarh, Aziz Ahmed was a resident of Maijan in Dibrugarh. Sources said Aziz is reportedly a professional gambler, and gives money on interest. He has no other business. His mother Munmi Begum was earlier the president of Congress Mahila Morcha of Dibrugarh district.

Meanwhile, Mehek’s mother Moushumi Sharma alleged that her daughter was murdered by Aziz Ahmed.

“My daughter has been murdered by Aziz Ahmed. He has been troubling my daughter for the last six months. I am a teacher and used to live alone with my daughter. When I threatened to file a police complaint against him, he threatened us of dire consequences. On Sunday at 3.30pm he forcefully took her out for a drive. At 8.30pm she called saying that she was having dinner at a dhaba. That was the last phone call from her.” Moushumi Sharma said. During initial investigation it has come to light that Aziz Ahmed who is married and a father of two children has been pressuring Mehek Sharma to have a relationship with him since last six months. Ahmed had allegedly taken Mehak for a drive on his car at around 3.30pm on Saturday. Police said that blood stains were found inside the car and scratch marks of nails were discovered on Aziz Ahmed’s neck.

“Mehek was allegedly murdered by Aziz because he wanted to marry her which she denied. Mehek was pushed from the moving vehicle. Before murdering her, Aziz tortured her,” said a police source.
