DIBRUGARH: An intense spell of rain overnight resulted in waterlogging in some areas of Dibrugarh town on Wednesday. The police reserve area has been facing the waterlogging problem since many years. This year too the area comes under water after overnight rains. Some of the wards of Dibrugarh were also flooded due to intense rain.

On the other hand, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) ward commissioners are monitoring their respective wards to clean the clogged drains but the problem does not seem to end. The busy Mancotta road was also badly affected by the flash flood in several stretches. The 300-metre stretch of road just before the Thana Chariali flyover from the Chowkidinghee side resembled a rivulet with the water level reaching up to knee-height.

"The Niz Kodomoni, Boiragimath area has been submerged in stagnated rain water since two days now. Unless and until the transformer is removed from the drain and blockades are removed, the scenario is not going to change. What is the use of building drainage if it cannot solve the waterlogging problem in the town," said a resident of Niz Kodomini. He said, "We are facing the waterlogging problem since many years in Dibrugarh. We want immediate solution of this decade-old problem."

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra was flowing at 105.48 metre in Dibrugarh against the danger level of 105.70 metre. In the last 24 hours, Dibrugarh received a total of 61.98 mm of rainfall as per data received from the water resources department.
