Dibrugarh: In a clear case of lack of civic sense as well as sense of hygiene, the Dibrugarh town protection dyke is increasingly becoming quite unclean and unhygienic because of a few people who tie their domestic cattle on the embankment. Although reported a couple of times earlier, things haven’t changed. In fact, it has only become worse. With the faecal waste of the cattle being strewn over a vast stretch on the embankment, specially near Panchali and Marwari Patty, the site has become a complete eye sore, other than one that deters many people from using the embankment for various recreational purposes. The said parts of the DTP dyke also keep emitting foul smell, making things even worse. One wonders why the authorities concerned, despite knowing such things, were not taking any measures against it. Is there a nexus between the two parties, the consequences of which were being faced by the commoners? The government is considering beautifying the riverbank in a major way to attract more people, but many people here wonder as to how such lofty ideas would work without certain basic things in place.
