DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade has witnessed a decline from ‘A’ to ‘B++’ in the fourth cycle of its accreditation. The university scored a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.79, falling short of the NAAC benchmarks. The evaluation process for the fourth cycle assessment and accreditation took place from November 6 to November 8, conducted by a seven-member NAAC peer team led by Prof. Sanjay Singh, Vice Chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

Despite making considerable progress in various areas since the last NAAC assessment in 2017, the university struggled to meet the revised, stricter NAAC criteria. Research paper publication was increased by 300%, but it was still insufficient to reach the NAAC benchmark.

“The latest benchmarks set by NAAC are quite high,” said Prof Kalyan Bhuyan, Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dibrugarh University. “There are numerous other internal problems that must be resolved.”

Dibrugarh University will need to take steps to improve its performance in various areas, including research, teaching, and infrastructure, to regain its ‘A’ grade in the next NAAC assessment cycle.

As per the grading system of NAAC, universities and colleges are assessed for A++ (3.76-4.00 CGPA), A+(3.51-3.75 CGPA), A (3.01-3.50CGPA), B++(2.76-3.00 CGPA), B+ (2.51-2.76 CGPA), B (2.01-2.50 CGPA) and C (1.51-2.00 CGPA). The lowest category D (up to 1.50 CGPA) is denied accreditation.

In March 2017, Dibrugarh University was awarded the ‘A’ certification by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
