DIBRUGARH: The 'Ride of Pride' bike rally reached Dibrugarh on Friday. It was conducted to celebrate the momentous occasion of winning the prestigious President's Colour Award by the Assam Police.

The bikers were given a rousing welcome after they reached Dibrugarh. The people of Dibrugarh were excited to see the bikers. The team led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Anand Mishra was received at the Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police office by Deputy SP Shwetank Mishra on their arrival. Earlier, the team also made a brief stop at the Jagannath Temple near the Dibrugarh town bypass.

A brief welcome event was also held at the SP office premises where Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, CRPF DIG Rajiv Ranjan and other senior officials were present.

The 'Ride of Pride' was flagged off from Dhubri on May 2 by Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. The 8-day ride traversing through 27 districts across the State will cover a total distance of 2,055 km.

Assam Police happens to be only the 10th State Police force in the country to have been conferred with the prestigious President's Colour Award. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the President's Colour Award to the Assam Police at an event in Guwahati on May 10.

The President's Colour Award is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit of India. It is also known as 'Nishaan' which is an emblem that will be worn by all unit officers on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform.

Talking to media persons, Anand Mishra said, "The rally was kick-started from Dhubri district on May 1 and today we reached Dibrugarh. We are getting good support from the public."
