Mangaldai: A total of 48,396 electorates in three civic bodies of Darrang district will exercise their democratic right to elect their local self government scheduled on March 6.

The total number of male voters is 23,950 while the number of female voters is 24,446. These three Municipality Boards of the district are Kharupetia, Mangaldai and newly-formed Sipajhar Municipality Board. The Sipajhar civic body has 10 wards with a total of 10,671 voters (Male 5,279 and Female 5,392), Kharupetia with 11 wards has a total voters of 17,484 (Male 8,917 and Female 8,567) while Mangaldai has a total of 20,241 voters (Male 9,754 and Female 10,487 voters).

Deputy Inspector General of Police of Central Western Range, Brajenjit Singha on Friday afternoon attended a meeting of all the police officials engaged in the civic poll duty at the conference hall of SP's office here and reviewed the law-and-order situation and preparation of civic poll duty.

Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Rupam Phukan and Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pranjal Bora also took part in the meeting. Addressing the review meeting, DIG Brajenjit Singha directed all the police officials engaged in civic poll duty to take all measures in ensuring free and fair polls in all the three civic bodies. He also appealed to all sections of the society to exercise their democratic right without any pressure or fear and also assured to extend all possible measures in conducting the civic poll in a peaceful atmosphere.
