HAFLONG: Dima Hasao district celebrated the 54th District Day on Thursday at the NL Daulagupu Sports Complex, Haflong. The programme was organized by North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council in collaboration with Dima Hasao district administration. The event began with cultural rally and it was flagged off by the chairperson of NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa from the council rotary and moved towards Veer Sambudhan Phanglo's statue, then towards the DHSA approach road and finally arrived at NL Daulagupu stadium. Nipolal Hojai, Executive Member, NCHAC, Devojit Bathari, Executive Member, NCHAC, Fleming Rupsi, MAC, NCHAC, and other dignitaries graced the programme wherein various memories and anecdotes on the history of the district were shared by them.

Five renowned personalities of Dima Hasao, Anupoma Naiding, Padma Shri awardee Dr Ramkuiwangbe Newme, Ramayan Tiwari, Roma Bonner and Biswajit Chakraborty were also felicitated on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, chairperson of NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa extended her deepest appreciation and gratitude towards the celebration of the 54th District Day. She said that the Dima Hasao district underwent a long journey in transforming itself from an autonomous district council to autonomous council in its effort to acquire more autonomy so that it could undertake important activities for the development of its people. The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, along with the present government, is working hard for the welfare and all-round development to the people of Dima Hasao district, she said.

Various line departments like Public Health Engineering, Agriculture, Sericulture, Fishery, Handloom and Textiles, DRDA, DIPRO, Industry, Health and Family Welfare, Forest, Social Welfare, Cooperation, Veterinary, Transport and Soil Conservation departments showcased their activities and materials by setting up stalls. Colourful cultural dances, traditional sports and other events were performed in the programme.
