Haflong: In protest against the implementation of Panchayati Raj system in 6th Schedule areas and setting up of detention camp in Dima Hasao, the Dimasa Women’s Society on Tuesday staged dharna in front the office of the Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner with the support of the All Dimasa Students’ Union and Dimasa Students’ Union.
Later, the Dimasa Women’s Society (DWS) submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and also NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao regarding the proposed implementation of gram panchayat under Panchayati Raj and the State Government’s decision to set up detention camp in Dima Hasao. The organization, in the memorandum, demanded early initiatives to avert the probable effects following the proposed implementation of the Panchayati Raj system (Gram Panchayat) in the Sixth Schedule areas of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts and setting up of detention camp of D-voters in Dima Hasao district. The organization said that the present situation has created panic in the minds of the people and hence the matter should be re-examined.
