Disaster management provisions in schools discussed at Dibrugarh DC office

Dibrugarh: A meeting-cum-workshop of the District School Safety Advisory Committee (DSSAC) was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Pallav Gopal Jha in connection with the enforcement of disaster management provisions in the Assam Non-Governmental Educational Institutions (Regulation and Management) (Amendment) Act, 2018 and School Safety.

Different topics like safety issues of school van, roadside parking near school premises, potable drinking water facilities in schools, toilet facilities, fire safety measures in schools, structural and non-structural safety measures (all types of schools), availability of open space in schools, conditions of approach road(s) to schools, preparation of School Disaster Management Plan (SDMP), and awareness generation programs in schools were discussed in details and feedback taken.

Project Officer, DDMA made a presentation on National DM Policy, Act and Guidelines. Executive Engineer, PHE Division, Dibrugarh, Bhaskarjyoti Sarmah also made a presentation on sanitation, potable drinking water facilities and solid waste management (under Swachh Bharat Mission). Sanjay Dutta, District Development Commissioner; Ranjit Konwar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education); and other high-ranking officials attended the meeting. Around 43 private schools participated in the meeting-cum-workshop.
