DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Friday refuted rumours about the pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh’s handing over letter to his wife Kirandeep Kaur in Dibrugarh Central jail. Talking to The Sentinel, Biswajit Pegu said, “No letter from Dibrugarh Central jail was sent to Amritpal Singh’s wife. Kirandeep Kaur has not visited Amritpal Singh in this week then how can he send the letter. It was baseless and false. Its a conspiracy and nothing else.”
A letter of Amritpal Singh went viral in social media where he addressed the letter to the Sikh community. The letter was dated to July 5, 2023. The whole letter was written in Gurumukhi script. He has addressed the letter to Sikh community. The letter was signed by all his 8 associates who are lodged in Dibrugarh jail.
In the letter, h has asked the community to shun drugs , to follow Sikh religion’s rules etc. He demanded to declare Nijjar and Khanda as martyrs ( they were recently killed in US & UK respectively). He also talked about Bhindranwale in the letter.
Recently, Kirandeep Kaur claimed that Amritpal Singh and his associates were on hunger strike against the “deplorable facilities in the jail” and she got to know about their protest during her weekly visit to Amritpal.
She claimed the NSA detainees were not given permission to make phone calls and were being served unhygienic food. Kirandeep Kaur complained that the person who is in charge of cooking use tobacco. This is against the Sikh rehat maryada (code of religious conduct).
Dibrugarh district adminstration refuted the report of ‘Waris Punjab De’ Chief Amritpal Singh being on hunger strike in Dibrugarh Central Jail, as claimed by his wife Kirandeep Kaur.
On April 23, Amritpal Singh was brought to the Dibrugarh Central jail after Punjab police arrested him from Moga district of Punjab. The nine associates of Amritpal Singh, who are also lodged at the Dibrugarh jail in Assam, have also been booked under NSA. The nine detainees are- Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
