District Road Safety Committee meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s office

Tezpur: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The meeting, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh in the presence of DSP (Hqs), Sonitpur, Rashmi Reka Sarmah, District Transport Officer, Umesh Chandra Sharma and heads of various departments, discussed several issues related to road safety such as proper road markings, installation of signage, conduct of awareness programmes, safety of school children carrying vehicles, among others.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials of the PWD (Roads) department to ensure proper road markings, signage and others in order to reduce the number of accidents in the district. In connection with various construction work going on in the district, he directed the officials of all works related departments to submit progress reports of works at regular intervals along with photographs for periodic review. Moreover, he instructed the PWD (NH) officials to carry out eviction of all illegal encroachment on land under their jurisdiction at the earliest and submit report before the next DRSC meeting. The meeting also discussed the possibility of installing CCTV cameras and traffic signals in Tezpur town in order to bring down the number of traffic violations.
