Tezpur: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday which reviewed the various road safety measures being implemented in the district. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar, in the presence of ADC KK Sharma, DTO Umesh Chandra Sharma, DSP Rashmi Rekha Sarmah, officials from NHIDCL, PWD, various stakeholders and heads of various departments.
At the very outset, the chairman-cum-Deputy Commissioner reviewed the status of the ‘No Helmet No Fuel’ rule being implemented in the district and asked the DTO to convene a meeting with all fuel depot owners to ensure strict compliance of the order.
In the meeting, it was resolved to intensify the drive against two-wheeler riders without helmets, and initiate action against illegal e-rickshaws plying on the streets and chalk out a detailed route map for plying of vehicles in the town area to ease congestion.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the NHIDCL and PWD (NH) authorities to carry out repair and maintenance work on the national highways at the earliest. The meeting also resolved to carry out a joint eviction drive in the market areas to remove all encroachment from footpaths within 3-4 days.
