SIVASAGAR: The District Road Safety Committee Meeting was held at Sukafa Conference Hall of DC’s office on Thursday. Various road safety measures to be taken for the safety of the public were discussed in the meeting which was chaired by DC Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya. The NHIDCL was instructed to provide proper signages alongside the National Highways. NHIDCL was also directed to identify accident-prone areas. The District Transport Officer was instructed to prepare a plan for creating awareness on road safety by including every department. The Deputy Commissioner suggested to start awareness on road safety from October 25. The District Transport Officer was also directed to chalk out a programme to encourage drivers to follow traffic rules.
During the meeting, a committee was formed with representatives from Police, Transport, NHIDCL and PWD Roads to inspect the entire stretch of National Highway in the district. The committee will submit a report regarding works to be done to curb road accidents and will also suggest measures including installation of signages. The Deputy Commissioner called upon the Natioanl Service Scheme (NSS) units of various colleges, Scouts and Guides, CRPF, CISF to take active part in generating mass awareness on traffic rules and road safety measures. The meeting resolved that the hospitals near National Highways should be equipped with basic health facilities for accident management. It was also decided that Road Safety Officer should be designated in each college for awareness at college level which should also include parents of the students. The dhabas and petrol pumps were directed to instal CCTV. The meeting was also attended by DIG, CISF PN Thakur and ADC Bidit Das.
