DOOMDOOMA: The Sub-National Immunization Day will be held in 19 districts of Assam, including Tinsukia from May 28, in view of the re-identification of polio patients in several parts of the world.

The second meeting of the District Task Force was held at the meeting room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s Office under the chairmanship of DC Swapnil Pal. District Immunization Officer Dr NKK Bora detailed the preparations being made by the district health department for the successful implementation of the Sub-National Immunization Day which will start from May 28. Under this campaign, more than 190,000 children aged zero to 5 years in Tinsukia district will be vaccinated by Polio vaccine.

The Government of India has launched this special programme to ensure that no child is excluded from receiving polio vaccination to achieve the goal of establishing India as a completely polio free country. Under the Sub-National Immunization Day, health workers will go from house to house as well as administer polio vaccination to children in schools and other public places. In addition, polio vaccination campaign will be conducted under every health sector in the Tinsukia district in collaboration with various departments like Social Welfare, Education, Transport, etc.

In today’s meeting, DC Swapnil Pal directed the Health Department to immediately prepare a well-planned plan for successful implementation of Sub-National Immunization Day in the district. The DC urged the departments of education, social welfare and other departments concerned to give their full cooperation for the successful implementation of this special vaccination programme. He also urged the parents to come to the nearest polio vaccination centre to vaccinate their children without hesitation.
