DIBRUGARH: Along with the other districts of the State, in Dibrugarh too, a Sub-National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme will be carried out from May 28 to May 30.

In this regard, a district-level task force meeting was held on Wednesday at the DC office conference hall which was chaired by Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, ADC (Health) Sanghamitra Baruah, Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Trishna Bora, Health officers of Barbaruah, Khowang, Duliajan,etc, officials of Health department, District Programme Officer, Social Welfare Department, officers, officials were present in the meeting.

Health Officer Dr Biswajit Baruah explained the planning undertaken for SND Pulse Polio Immunization Programme through power-point presentation.

The main objective of the Sub-National Pulse Polio Immunization is to reach every child (0-59 months) in the 23 districts during SNID May, 2023 and the key activities to achieve the objective are microplanning, field validations of High-Risk Areas, Training, District Task Force Meetings, Supervision and monitoring and recording and reporting.

It was reported in the meeting that areas which are at a higher risk of wild polio virus transmission are the migratory areas which are capable of sustaining low-level transmission and moving virus back and forth, and non-migratory or settled population where there is a risk of transmission is high.

The pulse polio activity will be conducted by establishing booth in schools, AWW centres, and will be managed by four workers like ANM, AWW, NGO members or community members and the beneficiaries in the booth will be vaccinated by two drops of polio vaccine. On the second and third day, team workers will visit each household, identify the unimmunized children and vaccinate them and then house marking will be done.

Transit booths, clinic booths, mobile teams, review meetings refresher training are some of the major steps that will be taken as part of the activity and the activity will be conducted under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) and departments involved will be education, Women and Child, Information and Public Relations etc. for dissemination of information and awareness of vaccination.

The DC asked the health officials and all the departments concerned to coordinate with each other to accomplish the project successfully and also perform the activities with concentration and focus.
