DHUBRI: A team of journalists from Dhubri Journalists' Association (DJA) led by Assistant Secretary, Ravindra Todi submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal through Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anant Lal Gyani on Friday. The memorandum stated that he was fully aware of the journalist, Rajib Sarma's arrest in an improper way on July 16 at around 2 am and the father of the scribe unable to bear the entire event of the arrest of his son succumbed and breathed his last.
"Later, as immediate steps taken up by you, to serve justice are appreciable and have been highly welcomed by everyone, and we the members of Dhubri Journalists' Association (Dhubri Press Club) will always be thankful to you for your timely actions to uphold the dignity of the fourth pillar of Democracy", stated the association in the memorandum. In view of Rajib's poor financial condition, memorandum stated that the entire event has caused irreparable damage and void to the journalist, which could not be fulfilled.
"Keeping in view of the current circumstances and the financial conditions of the journalist, we very humbly would like to pray before you to grant an amount of Rs10 lakh (Rupees Ten lakh only) to Rajib Sarma and his family as compensation for his loss and the harassments he has been facing these days and also will have to face in the days to come," memorandum further stated.
The memorandum also urged the Chief Minister to handover the case to the CID for proper investigation, and provide extra security to scribe. It may be mentioned that family of the journalist had lodged an FIR in Gauripur Police Station vide Gauripur PS Case No: 746/2020 dated the July 17. The memorandum was submitted to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Animesh Talukdar in absence of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anant Lal Gyani.
