HAFLONG: The Dimasa Mothers' Association (DMA) has vehemently condemned the wrong projection of female infanticide in the movie 'Semkhor', hurting the sentiments of the community just for benefit of a few, stated a press note issued by the president and general secretary of Dimasa Mothers' Association on Tuesday.

They stated that false projection about the Dimasa custom in the movie 'Semkhor', referring to the recent statements and reviews shared on social media and other platforms about the movie where the Dimasas of Semkhor village were projected as practicing female infanticide following maternal death during delivery, was unfortunate.

"The Dimasas have never had issues of such act of gender discrimination nor have they ever seen or read in any history of the Dimasas. Fictional stories scripted for any movie should not be propagated as factual practices of the Dimasa community or any other tribal community. Such propaganda is disgraceful and may diminish the honour of the indigenous tribe of the state of Assam," they stated.

"Moreover, as published on social media and other platforms about the people of Semkhor not welcoming developments such as education, health and good communications in their village, was absolutely false," they added.
