SILCHAR: State Cabinet's decision to provide Rs one lakh to the families of Dolu TE under a goodwill grant did not seem to pull down curtains on the agitation by the labourers in protest against the setting up of a greenfield airport. Asom Majuri Shramik Union, which had been steering the agitation, clearly stated that unless the government approves the proposals taken in the public hearing of the labourers, nobody would receive the grant. The proposal following the public hearing convened by district administration was signed by 2,328 labourers of Dolu, a release issued by Shramik Union stated.
It further said that the labourers had in clear terms informed the government that in no case they would leave the land they had been cultivating for generations for the setting up of airport. A meeting of Shramik Union was held in Silchar which was presided over by Kunjalata Ghatowar, Bagan Panchayat of Lalbagh division of Dolu TE estate. The release further added that various clauses of Industrial Dispute Act were violated in case of land acquisition in Dolu which amounted to disrespect the interest of the labourers. Until the government addresses these issues, labourers would not accept the Goodwill grant.
Meanwhile, Mrinal Kanti Shome, president of Shramik Union reportedly had been summoned by police on Wednesday evening.
