BONGAIGAON: "We don't want another division of Assam. At any cost we are against of division of Assam," said Phani Bhusan Choudhury, MLA of 32 Bongaigaon LAC, on Thursday while reacting to the comment of Ananta Ray Maharaj that the government was planning to form a new Kochbihar state where few districts of Assam would be included.
On Wednesday, Anata Ray Maharaj, the descendent of the family of Kochbihar Maharaj, said that Central Government was planning to form a new Central Government-dominated Kochbihar state where few parts of Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar districts would be included. He said that this would be formed just before the parliamentary election of 2024. He said that he was informed this by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Reacting to his statement, Phani Bhusan Choudhury said that he was against division of Assam again. "I don't know how authentic this statement is. But I don't support the division of Assam again. Moreover, the Maharaj spoke about forming Kochbihar state. But our community is demanding a separate Kamatapur state, not Kochbihar state," he said. On the other hand, few leaders of All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union have welcomed this statement.
