DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma Press Club, in its day-long 14th biennial conference, felicitated five newspaper agents of the locality. They are Rama Shankar Prasad of Neelam Book Stall, Manoj Kumar Sarawgi, Subhra Sengupta of Suchitra Paper Agency, Anjali Mazumdar and Gunin Baruah of Baruah Paper Agency, Rupaisiding. Of them Neelam Book Stall has completed 50 years.

They were all felicitated with a phulam gamosa, a citation and a memento. In the morning the programme got underway with hoisting of flag by president Arjun Baruah followed by smriti tarpan by secretary Manoj Dutta. Thereafter, the felicitation programme of the newspaper agents was held.

In the delegate session, the secretarial report and audited accounts of the club presented by secretary Manoj Dutta and treasurer Pittarchand Mittal were duly passed by the house. A new 13-member executive body for 2020-21 was elected with Anuj Kalita as president, Manoj Baruah as secretary and Pittarchand Mittal as treasurer. A number of important resolutions were adopted on preservation of Dibru-Saikhowa Wildlife Sanctuary in view of the Baghjan blowout, payment of due compensation to actual affected people, immediate release of political detainees of anti-CAA movement, request to newspaper houses to issue appointment letters and identity cards to its correspondents, among others.

The session took serious note of the government's move to set up a new college named Bir Raghav Moran College at Doomdooma by acquisition of a part of land belonging to Doomdooma Hoonlal HS School and for that the meeting formed a five-member committee comprising Dhiren Deka, Arjun Baruah, Anuj Kalita, Abhijit Khataniar and Paban Dutta to inquire into the whole matter along with knowing the status of the plot of land where the fire brigade office was set up before it was shifted to Rupaisiding. The meeting was also attended by Ranajyoti Neog, Secretary, Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA) as observer.
