DOOMDOOMA: The 571st birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, the 6th-century Vaishnavite Saint of Assam, was observed with the three-day-long programme from October 8 to October 10 by Doomdooma Rajahua Namghar Samity with great religious fervour and devotion.
The programme got underway on Tuesday with Usha kirtan followed by hoisting of religious flag by president Sonaram Bora. During the three-day-long celebration, different competitions on essay writing, quiz, Borgeet, Diha naam and Xattriya dance were organized. The concluding day’s programme began with naam prasanga on Thursday morning.
Thereafter, a religious procession with Bhagawat was taken out along the main thoroughfare of the town where people offered their reverence to the holy book. Hundreds of people, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and language, took part in the procession. The celebration came to an end with bhaona by local artistes.
