GOLAGHAT: At a time when the 93rd birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika will be celebrated across the State with great enthusiasm and gaiety, the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Mukali Mancha and Udyan under Morangi Development Block remains neglected.
The Dr Hazarika Mukali Mancha and Udyan was constructed under Morangi Development Block at Purabangla near Morangi Revenue Circle Office. This project was constructed under the scheme of the Chief Minister’s dream project with an estimated amount of Rs. 10 lakh. The Assam Government allotted a sum of Rs. 10 lakh for construction. But due to alleged anomalies and corruption, the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Mukali Mancha and Udyan remained neglected. A large chunk of the allotted fund was siphoned off by the officials. Only about Rs 2 lakh was used in construction of the hall and there is no sign of any park in the specific area where the Mancha was constructed.
The local people have expressed strong resentment over alleged anomalies took place in construction of the Dr Bhupen Mukali Mancha and Udyan. They said that at present the hall constructed in the name of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was in a very pitiable and dilapidated condition. The Mancha had become shelter for stray animals. They demanded the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat as well as Chief Minister to take stringent action against the officials who were involved in corruption during the construction of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Mukali Mancha and Udyan at Morangi.
