Dr. Ravi Kannan, Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre felicitated at Silchar

Silchar: Dr. Ravi Kannan, Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, was felicitated at a function in the premises of the hospital on Tuesday organized jointly by Cachar Cancer Hospital Society and all staff of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre to the applaud of all. Along with him, his mother Indumati Rangaswami, his wife Seetha Lakshmi Kannan and Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, were also honored. Nilmadhav Das, general secretary of the society, welcomed the distinguished assembly. Prof Jyoti Lal Chowdhury read out the citation, describing Dr. Ravi Kannan, as a great friend of people who left the coveted post at his native place Chennai to serve the poor and the downtrodden in this remote corner of the northeast by providing them treatment at the most affordable cost.

Mihir Kar Purkayastha, a founder member of the CCHS, called Dr. Ravi Kannan a perfect blend of magnanimity and humanity for whom ‘service to man is service to God.’ Prof D P Roy, former general secretary, said no words are sufficient to appreciate the relentless efforts of Dr. Kannan to give a new shape and dimension to this center of cancer treatment which has earned a place of distinction in this part of the country and beyond its frontiers.

Dr. Poulmi Mukherjee and Debabrata Dutta, administrative officer, shared their experiences of working under the guidance of Dr. Kannan who has the uncanny power of leadership and motivation to all the 350 staff of the CCHRC. Dr. Kumar Kanti Das attached with Kalyani Hospital of this town, known for his sweet and suave behavior with suffering and the afflicted and exemplary services with a true sense of self-renunciation, heaped bountiful praises on him, describing him as the messiah and savior of people.

Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, expressed happiness at the conferment of Padmashree award to Dr. Kannnan. This has glorified all of them and brought CCHRC on the map of the best treatment centers of the country. She went around the hospital and assured whatever help is needed, she will definitely respond. The function was presided over by Dr. K P Chakraborty, chairman of CCHS. The tone of the programme was set in motion with the sweet and sonorous devotional song sung by Debahuti Chakraborty, a student of Maharshi Vidyalaya. Dr. K P Chakraborty drew the curtain by offering a vote of thanks.
