SILCHAR: After 10 months, Dr Siddharth Sankar Nath had been reinstated as the principal of Cachar College.
Dharmakanta Mili, the Director of the Higher Education (DHE), on Saturday in an order stated that as per the decision taken by the Education department on July 29, Dr Nath has been asked to join the duty immediately. Since the order reached late in the evening after office hours, Dr Nath could not join on Saturday. However, after receiving the order, Dr Nath went to the college and later sent a letter to Shashanka Sekhar Dhar, the president of the governing body. Sources said, Dr Nath will join on Monday.
Dr Siddhartha Shankar Nath was suspended on November 1 last year following a long agitation by the teachers and non-teaching employees of Cachar College. Assam College Teacher Association (ASTA) had extended full support to the agitating colleagues of the Cachar College who alleged that Dr Nath had provoked a group of students to manhandle the teachers inside the principal’s chamber. Teachers of Cachar College had submitted a memorendum to the DHE against Dr Nath accuaing him of misutilizing his powers.
