KOKRAJHAR: Dr Surath Narzary of Kokrajhar, an academician, noted writer, thinker and retired principal of Kokrajhar Government College, became the new president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS). The new body of the BSS was formed during the 62nd conference of the Sabha being held at Rani Khalaishree Fwthar, Patgaon in the Kokrajhar district.

The formation of new body of BSS was held on Saturday midnight where Dr. Surath Narzary became the president with majority support from the delegates coming from Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Tripura, Bangladesh and Nepal while existing general secretary Pradanta Boro was replaced by Nilkanta Goyary of the Sonitpur district as the new general secretary of the sabha.

Hailing from Khumguri village under Serfanguri police station of the Kokrajhar district, Dr Surath Narzary was the retired principal of Kokrajhar Government College and he was associated with various social organizations, including Bodo Sahitya Sabha. He was the founder president of Ramfalbil Anchalik Bodo Students’ Union popularly known as RABSU in 1963 while the central committee of ABSU was formed on February 15, 1967. He has a number of books to his credit. He is a scholar and a guiding force.

Narzary, after becoming as the next president of the BSS, said he would work for the all-round development of Bodo language and literature with collective responsibility and collaborated efforts made with stakeholders to develope Bodo medium in Assam and beyond. He, however, called upon all to extend cooperation in carrying out development activities of Bodo language and literature.
