LAKHIMPUR: The Department of Tribal Affairs (Plains) under the Government of Assam has already published the draft lists of the villages for the delimitation of the constituencies of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC). According to the list, a total of 1673 villages under 19 districts of the State, outside BTAD area, have been proposed for the delimitation in the autonomous council concerned.

Out of them, 213 villages of Dhemaji district, 54 of Lakhimpur district, 112 of Darrang district, 278 of Kamrup (Rural), 91 of Nalbari district, 122 of Barpeta district, 30 of Bongaigaon district, 7 of Dhubri district, 133 of Goalpara district, 103 of Kamrup (Metro) district, 68 of Morigaon district, 91 of Nagaon district, 207 of Golaghat district, 32 of Charaideo district, 33 of Dibrugarh district, 58 of Tinsukia district, 27 of Hailakandi district, 5 of Karimganja district and 9 villages of Cachar district have been drafted for the 36 BKWAC constituencies.

Meanwhile, the secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) has forwarded the list to the districts concerned and the list has been made available for public view in the Office of the Deputy Commissioners of the districts concerned.

Notably, the Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) under Government of Assam on May 2 issued notification for the delimitation of the thirty six constituencies for the General Council of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) in accordance with the provisions of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Act, 2020. According to the notification, the draft list of the villages are at present available for the public in the Office of the Deputy Commissioners concerned during the working days from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. Public can submit their claims and objections regarding the draft, inclusion and exclusion of the villages in the proposed constituencies until May 12. On the other hand, the claims and objections will be disposed of on May 20. The Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) has already designated a total of 42 officers covering the district concerned for the disposal of the claims and objections.

Earlier, the Government of Assam, vide notification No.E-231097/446 dated January 3, 2023, designated Binita Pegu, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) as the Designated Officer to determine the territorial limits of the BKWAC constituencies.
