Drama competition begins at Bango Bhawan in Silchar

SILCHAR: After a one year lull due to the pandemic, the much-awaited Rupam drama festival in Silchar was back with a bang. The 41st edition of this famed All India one act play competition began here on Friday at Bango Bhawan. The five-day competition would see altogether 20 participants, seven from outside Barak Valley would stage their production. Two teams from West Bengal have already reached Silchar.

In its 40 years of history, the Rupam drama competition was for the first time being held outside District Library which was currently under reconstruction. This year the three member jury includes Prof Biswatosh Choudhury from Assam University, Narayan Deb from Agartala and Dr. Apurba Kumar Dey from Kolkata. The first day saw three productions, two by local teams cultural unit and another by Marichika from Kolkata.
