Drive against illicit country liquor in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: In view of the alarmingly increasing and flourishing business of illicit and contaminated country liquor not only in several parts of the Darrang district, but also in and around the district headquarters town at Mangaldai, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarma on Wednesday evening, accompanied by Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia, supervised an operation at village Banglagarh near Mangaldai town.

In this operation led by the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, a total of 30,000 litres of country liquor and 20 kg of fermented rice ready for preparation of country liquor were destroyed.

Serious allegations have been raised by the conscious circles of the society against a section of corrupt excise officials for their unholy nexus with illicit country liquor traders.
