TINSUKIA: In a drive against lockdown violators following excessive defiance by both shopkeepers and general public, a magisterial team of Tinsukia district administration led by assistant commissioner Bhaskar Borah penalized 75 traders in Daily Bazar area in Tinsukia on Friday and realized Rs 13,500 as fine at the rate of Rs 500 for not wearing masks. This exercise will continue and if the same person is found to have violated lockdown again, the quantum of fine will be higher to the extent of legal action, informed Borah. Dr Monoj Saha, vice-president of New Market Merchants' Association, while welcoming the move of the district administration, desired that the drive should be enforced more stringently and also advised shopkeepers to refuse customers without masks.
