Nagaon: Drive Against Opposite Direction Driving Intensified

NAGAON: The Nagaon district administration has started a drive against opposite direction driving in the district and for that purpose, a dedicated phone number 9531107510 has been made available for the public for lodging complaints and uploading/sending pictures and videos of such opposite direction driving so that necessary measures may be taken and defaulters can be penalised as per extant rules.

The district administration calls upon the citizens of Nagaon to play a pro-active role in maintaining road safety and to raise complaints in connection with such incidents to help minimize any untoward incidents caused by opposite direction driving, an official release stated here.

While speaking to this correspondent on Thursday, DTO, Nagaon, Sunit Kr Bora said that over 1,000 cases of driving in opposite direction have been reported during last three months. Significantly, over 500 such cases are recorded in the month of May, especially on the NH 37 four-lane road from Uriagaon bypass Chariali to Kaliabor Tiniali. He said that the department concerned initiated sufficient measures to prevent such fatal driving from the opposite direction and also imposed penalty of several lakhs of rupees.
