DU Vice Chancellor inaugurates conference hall of Lakhimpur Girls’ College

LAKHIMPUR: The newly-constructed conference hall of the Lakhimpur Girls’ College, set up in fond memory of Gunjan Karan, Late Assistant Professor of the Department of English of the college, was inaugurated on Saturday.

The conference hall was inaugurated by Professor Jiten Hazarika, the Vice-Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University. Then the Vice Chancellor took part in a crucial meeting with the professors and students of the college. Principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan, prominent academician Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi also attended the meeting wherein the Vice Chancellor delivered an informative lecture on New Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

In the same programme, donor of the Gunjan Karan Memorial Conference Hall, Gunjan Karan’s wife Devangini Baruah, another contributor Kanan Sewok Khandatreya, the former Vice-Principal of the college, and prominent social worker Lakhi Chutia, who funded for the construction of the college entry path, was given warm felicitation. It was followed by a book release event wherein “The Pioneer”, bulletin of the college showcasing the college’s achievements and updates was released. The event also witnessed the release of a series of books, edited and written by several professors of the college, which have showcased the commitment of the academic institution to knowledge dissemination and research.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan said that the programmes organized on the day had symbolized the college’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for academic and professional gatherings. “The newly-inaugurated conference hall will serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, collaboration and intellectual discussions. On the other hand, the publications, inaugurated today, are anticipated to make significant contributions to their respective fields and enrich the academic community,” the Principal added. The occasion also included the distribution of various awards to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of the students and faculty members.
