TANGLA: The pomp and gaiety that gripped the people of the town during Durga Puja came to an end on Wednesday evening as the idols of the goddess of strength were immersed in water with traditional religious fervour.

Amidst the sounds of hymns, drums and cymbals, the devotees visited different Puja mandaps of the town during the Puja days to seek divine blessings of Goddess Durga. More than 40 Puja committees of the town took out a huge procession on Wednesday evening on the way to Nonai and Naika -the two rivers of Tangla for immersion.

Throughout the Puja days, a large number of revellers thronged the town. The town literally turned into a sea of humanity as thousands of people lined up on both sides of the roads to catch a glimpse of the trucks carrying the idols for immersion. The Bhergaon subdivisional administration made special arrangements to facilitate the immersion ceremony smoothly.
