Earthquake-cum-fire drill held in 100 schools across Sonitpur

Tezpur: Along with the rest of the State, the Great Assam School Shakeout Programme was held successfully across 100 schools of the district recently involving officials of DDMA, Education Department, NDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, SDRF, Civil Defence and volunteers.

The earthquake-cum-fire drill which focused on safe evacuation during an earthquake, saw the participation of students, teachers and staff of the schools. An exhibition of equipment was also held for the students and teachers in four schools, one in each educational block of the district, by Civil Defence in Ketibari MVS, by NDRF in Amaribari MES, by SDRF in Jamuguri Model LPS and by Fire Services in Dhekiajuli Girls’ High School.

The mock drill was held with the motive to sensitize the students and teachers about the do’s and don’ts during an earthquake or fire incident, about the importance of an emergency assembly point and evacuation route.
