DIBRUGARH: The Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM’s) 6th North East Zonal Conference (NEZCON) stands as a pivotal event in shaping the future of public health in the region.

Hosted at Assam Medical College by the Department of Community Medicine, this conference serves as the platform for groundbreaking collaborations that will chart a roadmap for enhanced public health. ECHO India, one of the prominent participating organizations at the 6th IAPSM NEZCON, announced its aim to collaborate closely with Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) by establishing a hub within the Department of Community Medicine at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH).

This partnership will strengthen the healthcare ecosystem in Assam and further enhance the quality of medical services and education in the region. IAPSM also announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ECHO India, extending their collaboration across the country with a specific focus on community medicine and public health.

The MoU represents a significant step towards enhancing the quality of healthcare and public health initiatives in India. By joining forces, these organizations aim to leverage their collective expertise and resources to make a more substantial and meaningful impact on the healthcare landscape throughout the country.

Established in 1974, the IAPSM is a national professional body in the field of Community Medicine and Public Health, comprising specialists in Preventive & Social Medicine, Community Medicine, and Public Health.

Prof. Sanjeeb Kakati, Principal of AMCH said, “The partnership represents an exciting opportunity for Assam Medical College to expand its reach and improve medical education. Together, we are cultivating a vision of equity where every individual, regardless of their background, can access high-quality care.”

In the past, ECHO India has played a role in supporting healthcare initiatives in Assam. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ECHO India worked in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM) Assam to run capacity-building initiatives for frontline healthcare workers. Additionally, ECHO India has established successful partnerships with key institutions in Assam, including the State TB Cell, Dr Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), MIND India, and Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) for educational projects.

Dr MS Lakshmipriya, Mission Director, NHM Assam said, “Partnerships that strengthen our healthcare system are vital. Such collaborations will undoubtedly lead to better health outcomes for the people of Assam, ensuring they receive the quality healthcare they deserve.”

Prof Tulika Goswami Mahanta, working president of the organizing committee of the 6th IAPSM NEZCON 2023 said, “The 6th IAPSM NEZCON is pleased to host ECHO India’s participation in this conference. Their commitment to strengthening healthcare in Assam aligns perfectly with our mission to advance preventive and social medicine in the region.”

Dr Sandeep Bhalla, Associate Vice President, ECHO India, said, “We are honoured to collaborate with Assam Medical College and build a hub within the Department of Community Medicine.
