SIVASAGAR: The government-built tea garden schools will have an unprecedented number of students and eight teachers will be appointed in each school. This was stated by the Minister of Education, Dr Ranoj Pegu, while inaugurating the Tea Garden Adarsh Vidyalaya at Amguri in Sivasagar district on Thursday.

"For a long time, the tea garden workers were deprived of their dues. Only the company was blamed when it came to the issue of development, education and health. Political parties used it as a vote bank only during the elections," said Pegu. Pegu further said that the present government has opened 96 out of 119 schools in the first phase for the expansion of tea garden education.

While answering the media about the higher secondary first year examinations and the future of all students, he said, "The council is an autonomous body which has a chairman and I am not directly involved with it. I need to take report on this."

On the issue of High Court recently barring the appointment of grace mark recipients who had passed the TET, Pegu said that the government would soon file a petition to the High Court for the grace mark recipient teachers who are presently doing their job.

Inquiring about the results of the high and higher secondary final examinations, the minister reiterated that it is the responsibility of the council and the SEBA to take a decision in this regard.
