Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya unfurls tricolor in Jorhat

JORHAT: Assam Education Minister Siddartha Bhattacharyya, who attended the I-Day programme in Jorhat as the chief guest, unfurled the tricolor on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day celebrated at the Kachari Maidan and accepted the salute from various troops like the CISF, CRPF, Assam Police battalion, traffic branch, NCC, Scouts and Guides and the band of the 3rd Battalion Assam Police including bands from Jonaki Sangha High School and Carmel School, Jorhat.

During the Independence Day celebration, several freedom fighters were felicitated by the chief guest on the occasion. The minister congratulated Jorhat district for securing second position in HSLC examination 2018 and also for securing highest marks in Class XII State Board Examination. Siddartha Bhattacharyya also called upon the great freedom fighters from the district who had made supreme sacrifice for their country and were hanged at the Jorhat Central jail way back in 1942. The great freedom fighters Mukti Nath Sarma, Jananayak Debeswar Sarma, Harinarayan Baruah, Bahadur Gaonburha, Kushal Konwar, Kamal Miri, Gomodhar Konwar, all names needed to be highlighted for whom we are free today.

Among others present on the occasion were freedom fighters Khageswar Gogoi, Debeswar Doloi, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, DC Roshni Aparanji Korati, SP Vaibhav Nimbalkar and DIGP (Eastern Range), Jorhat Dr. V Siva Prasad Ganjawala.
