Election campaigning in Tezpur election district to end on April 9

Tezpur: In pursuance of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Sonitpur district administration has imposed restrictions on election-related campaigning beyond 5pm of April 9 in Tezpur election district. Tezpur will go to polls on April 11 along with other districts in the first phase of elections in Assam.

During the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of poll, it is prohibited to hold any meeting/ procession in connection with the election, display any election matter to the public by means of cinematography and television, propagate any election matter to the public through concerts, theatrical performances or any other means of entertainment. Any violation in this regard is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
