Elephant calf rescued by local youths At Sonakuchi reserve forest

JAGIROAD: An elephant calf was trapped by two huge rocks in the downhill of Sonakuchi reserve forest near Deosal Temple. It was rescued on Saturday by a group of local youths.

Sources said that the calf was with its mother but at the foothill of Sonakuch reserve forest, it got trapped between two rocks on Thursday. The mother elephant, finding no way to rescue the calf, damaged few houses nearby and injured one Suchen Koch who was later shifted to GMCH.

Meanwhile, forest staff arrived but could not do anything to rescue the calf. Then a group of local youths rescued the calf. People have appreciated the efforts of the local youths while criticizing the forest staff.
