Tinsukia: A wild elephant died due to electrocution after stepping on a high power electrical cable lying on the ground in Bishnupur area of Tinsukia. The elephant came out of its natural habitat in search of food. The incident took place on Wednesday.

The sources said three wild elephants came out from a nearby forest in search of food. Unknowingly, they reached a tea garden near the village. When the locals of that area tried to make them flee, one of them stepped on a high powered electrical wire and died.

The owner of the tea garden had complained to the power department regarding the electrical wires lying on the ground long back. However, there was no response from the power department resulting in the death of the elephant. Locals are now worried that this could result in more casualties in the area.
